Gemini reads your handwriting?!

Transcribe or summarise your notes with this tip

Gemini reads your handwriting?!

Before we get into it, just a quick reminder that I’ll be hosting a free live stream on 30th April covering the latest updates to Google Workspace with live demonstrations and time for Q&A from chat. Learn more and add it to your calendar here.

Even if you love technology like me, you probably have a notepad and pen on your desk that’s used for jotting down notes, thoughts and ideas. Previously, that handwriting stayed put on the page and I never looked at it again.

Gemini can transcribe those notes for you, summarise your writing or even expand on your ideas. This is easiest when using the Gemini app on your phone. Here’s how:

  1. Tap the + button in the prompt box
  2. Use the camera to take a picture (or choose one from your gallery)
  3. Take the picture (it doesn’t need to be perfect)
  1. Click attach to add the image to your prompt
  2. Add a prompt to tell Gemini what you want it to do (if you leave it blank Gemini will default to describing and summarising the image)
  3. Read the results!

That’s it! Now imagine if you had a chat with Gemini where you continue to upload pages of your notes. You could prompt Gemini to find connections between the things you’re working on, give you an update on progress based on the notes over time, or help you with new ideas for next steps.

Bonus tip

If you’re working in a group and putting ideas down on Post-It notes, take a picture of them all and prompt Gemini to group and summarise them for you.
