Add a button to listen to your Google Docs

New feature just launched!

Add a button to listen to your Google Docs

If you love a podcast or audio book, this new feature is for you. It’ll allow you to listen to documents whilst doing other things, and only takes a few seconds to setup.

Just so you know, this feature is brand new, so you may not have access yet, or you may need an eligible Google Workspace account or an AI Pro plan on your personal account.

How to listen to your Google Docs

Make sure you’re in a document that has content - this won’t work if there’s nothing to read!

  1. Click on the ‘Listen to tab’ icon in the toolbar to add a button to your document
  2. Click the button to start listening (the panel that pops up can be moved around using the grab handle on the left)
  3. [Optional] Change the playback speed by clicking the icon on the player
  4. [Optional] Choose from a range of different voices by clicking the more options button (3 dots) on the player
  5. [Optional] Change the text, colour and size of the listen button by mousing-over it and clicking the pencil icon

Do you have any interesting ideas for how you’ll use this? I’d love to hear them in the comments!
